Saturday Update: Disney updates today that Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 earned $48.2 million domestically on Friday, inclusive of Thursday's $17.5 million previews.

In 2009, The Walt Disney Co. purchased Marvel Entertainment for the hefty sum of $4 billion. More than a decade later, their superhero cinematic continuity -- largely curated by Disney, but with some assistance from Paramount and Universal in the early days -- has earned over $22.5 billion at the global box office.
